Join us for a spring trip to the beautiful North Alabama area to capture some of natures most amazing wild flowers nested in the foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains. We stay at Desoto State Park and travel the area uncovering waterfalls, wild flowers, amazing sunrises and wildlife. During this time the Rhododendron and Mountain Laural should be in full bloom. At night we meet for dinner and discuss the days events.

Where We Go: We will be staying at Desoto State Park and using this for our “Base Camp”. The workshop will lead you to many area attractions, 100 foot waterfalls, mountains streams, beautiful vistas, wildflowers and much more. A weekend of learning and socializing with fellow photographers that share your passion.

What You Learn: With over 30 years of experience photographing in the area, Scott and Dave focus their attention on improving your macro, landscape and general nature photography during this fun-filled weekend. In a classroom setting, Scott and Dave discuss topics including exposure, composition, HDR & panoramic images, Zone System for color and equipment considerations for landscape and nature photography. During field assignments, they answers any questions that may arise and are available to assist you. Scott and Dave carry their camera equipment to help you during the field trips but at no time will they be photographing their personal work, they are there to help you. Valuable critique sessions, held at night, help you identify areas in which you can improve.

Who Should Attend: Anyone. Both digital and film cameras are welcome, however, only digital images can be critiqued. Due to the hiking that is required, it is recommended that you be in good physical condition. All skill levels are welcome, but lectures are not tailored to basic principles.

Travel During the Workshop: You are responsible for your own transportation during the workshop. If we have enough interest then we will rent a van or two. Please let us know and we will get some prices.

Meals During the Workshop: We will provide dinner for the students while we are having our end of the day classes and discussions. You are responsible for your own meals during the day. The instructor will allow plenty of breaks in the schedule. During the day, lunch and snacks, we ask that you pack a picnic style lunch so that we do not have to travel into town.

Lodging: We will be staying at the Desoto Lodge and using this for our “Base Camp”
They have campgrounds, motel, lodge, chalets, log cabins and rustic cabins. Rates range from $12.00 to $133.00 a night. Chalets and Cabins sleep 4 or more.
